My specialties:

“If a deadline is set, I will make it, no matter what! My ability to work in a very structured way really helps with that. I get so much energy from my work. Whenever I’m on an international artist tour with (inevitable) near sleepless schedule, I’m still able to perform to my best abilities and put on an awesome show, day in, day out.”

My favourite project:

“I especially loved working on the 2018 NIKKIE in concert show. It felt like a project where all VeeMee’s strongpoints came together, in terms of art direction, content and live show operation. Every Ummet Ozcan tour comes at a second, because of the lovely touring team, and the dream destinations.”

My most memorable live show experience:

“Fedde Le Grand at Ultra 2019. It was a daytime show (obviously not preferable for visuals) but still a VJ bucket list experience. It’s a tie between that and Ummet Ozcan at VAC, Wuhan 2019. The scale of it all, the huge screens, the endless energy of the crowd. Still gives me goosebumps!”

What inspires me:

“Music can be super inspiring. Hearing a great song can make me want to get to work and translate it into something visual. I also love seeing the work of other great illustrators.”

Why I love my job

“The energy of the crowd at live shows. Being a creator and showing your creations to the world. Seeing tens of thousands of people respond do it, and receiving endless energy from them. Traveling all around the globe. Working with my dearest team and delivering awesome shows, created from nothing. Working at a high pace, reaching milestone after milestone.”

What I want to learn:

“Being an illustrator by heart, I’d like to go back to those basics once. The drawing pen, pencil and manually crafted animations. It’s sometimes too easy to find yourself using the same tricks of the trade. Leaving behind all the technological aids would allow me to step outside that framework and create fresh and novel things in an idiosyncratic way. This would require quite an investment in terms of time. Considering my leadership role at VeeMee, it’s my challenge to find a balance to allow for such moments.”

My specialties:

“Technical experience of a broad spectrum of AV equipment. VJing for harder musical styles, but also oriented towards operating for shows. I really like to be challenged, so any task that is handed to me I grab with both hands and give my full dedication.”

My favourite project:

“Intents Festival, all editions but specifically the 2016 one. I’ll never forget its anthem show! The amount of energy and awesome vibes I got from the audience was amazing and really pushed me to give my all during the show. Snollebollekes Live in Concert is a close runner up!”

My most memorable live show experience:

“Intents Festival 2015. My third time VJing for VeeMee, and my first ever solo performance. I VJed at the Indoor Mainstage for the whole weekend. After that, I knew I would never be wanting to do anything else!”

What inspires me:

“Seeing a show that is ran with new technology and equipment. It makes me want to dive straight into every technical detail. Collaboration with other disciplines keeps being a source of inspiration. Imagine operating a show, exchanging just a single look with the light operator, and then nailing the entire show from start to finish, without saying a word, yet knowing exactly what to do, and making everything look like it was all preprogrammed and edited, even though you just painstakingly performed everything live on the spot. Priceless. Seeing my colleagues’ work makes me proud to be a part of this team and also inspires me to approach certain things from previously unexplored angles.”

Why I love my job:

“The adrenaline rush I get from watching the crowd go nuts and having the best time of their life. Performing at recurring events, collaborating with teams that, over the years, sort of become family. Traveling the world, touring with DJs. Although being on tour means you don’t get to completely explore your destinations, you still get to see a fair bit of the nicest places on the globe. Someday, I would like to revisit those places properly.”

What I want to learn:

“Expanding my technical experience even more. Keeping myself up to date on the latest AV equipment and new ways to deliver an even better show. Also making sure that our headquarters runs smoothly and keeps doing so. Making sure we’re up to date software-wise, and using optimal workflows. Keeping our media servers running and enabling people in doing whatever they need to do.”

“Mixing the power of coffee with the power of 3D animation! I’m also always on the lookout for new techniques and ways of working.”

My favourite project:

“The Intents shows are always great to work on, with high production values in all areas.”

My favourite thing that I made:

“I made so, so much, but to pick something recent, I’m really happy with the things I’m achieving with Unreal Engine. Real-time 3D environments, complete with video inputs for VJing, and virtual camera operation. A completely new playground!”

What inspires me:

“Sometimes I close my eyes and reminisce about the good old days when MTV still broadcasted music videos. It always lights sparks for new ideas.”

Why I love my job

“Lots of my passions, like animation and music, are involved in this job. I also like to be amazed by the exciting developments and fast progression in this field, which makes it never boring.”

What I want to learn:

“I’m always looking for ways to elevate my way of working to a higher level, create more beautiful visuals and improve the way I’m implementing new technologies. It’s a never-ending process.”

“Art direction, editing and concepting are my strengths.”

My favourite project:
“Intents Festival will always be one of my favourites. The 2012 edition is still dear to me as it was the first one I worked on. Such a huge project, such an achievement!”

My most memorable live show experience:

“For a very special project, I traveled to Beirut. That awesome trip really left an impression on me. I also learned from seeing the locally different way of working and social interaction. Finding out that the recent disaster that took place there was quite close to where I was working was quite a shock to me. My heart goes out to all the dear people affected by the tragedy.”

What inspires me:

“Too much to mention! My online collection of ever changing mood boards just keeps on growing. It’s not just other art and movies that inspire me, but for instance also nature and its color palettes, little thoughts or sayings that can lead to big new concepts, basically anything in my life can trigger exciting ideas.”

Why I love my job:

“Every day is different. Festivals, art, shows or events; you’ll never know what the next project will look like. Teamwork, execution, the adrenaline when the crowd goes wild, the performances and the audience all together make my job really cool.”

What I want to learn:

“In the future I’d like to dedicate more time to learn more about 3D (motion) design and team leadership. In the end, I just want to keep growing so I can make more beautiful shows.”

My specialties:

“3D Motion graphics and live VJ performances, naturally! When you VJ with self-created content more and more often, you develop this special sense of what works and what doesn’t in terms of visual content. My forte lies in creating upbeat and colorful visuals, a style that often suits large music festivals, or really stylized artist visuals, like the content we made for Da Tweekaz.”

My favourite project:

“My favourite projects are the ones where I get assigned a stage, get to create 3D content fitting its theme, to then VJ the stage at the actual event, coming full circle from concept to production to performance. Some great examples are Emporium 2019 (my stage was the Dolphinarium one) and New Horizons 2019 (with me at the Urban Circus stage). You never get fully used to suddenly seeing the visuals that you were building on an LCD monitor being blown to giant proportions, working in tandem with music, stage design, light and all the other show elements. Always a thrill!”

My most memorable live show experience:

“New Horizons 2019 was one of my favourite experiences. The project itself was great to work on start to finish, but also the long weekend trip with the team to Germany, working long but rewarding days, and enjoying a beer (perhaps multiple) together after ending another great show.”

What inspires me:

“Anything I take in on a daily basis, be it a conversation, a cool stage I saw on a festival, a newspaper article, or a certain song I liked. Anything can lead to a new idea coming to fruition.”

Why I love my job:

“I’ve always been an avid festivalgoer. Becoming a part of the festival world from the other side is already a huge plus for me. Besides that, I’ve always been fascinated by light and sound as a kid. My love for creating imagery followed not much later. What I do right now is where all of these aspects come together.”

What I want to learn:

“You never stop learning, especially in the case of VJing and 3D motion graphics! Ever year I try to step up to the next level. This applies to both my content creation and live performance. There’s so much to learn and discover.”

“The ‘interactive table’ for Topcon was really great. During this project, different skills were combined: animation, storytelling, projection, interaction & 3D-printing. Working on multifaceted projects makes me happy.”

What is the best part of your job?
“My job is extremely versatile: we are working on tons of different projects simultaneously at any given time. The lead times are short and every day is different. We want to combine skills, people and forms of art. We work on interdisciplinary collaborations.”

I’m good at…
“Communication, budgeting & project management. I’m not your typical ‘artsy guy’: I’m here to get the job done and make sure it doesn’t become a big mess. Once in a while even, the VJs actually listen to my opinion about the artwork! They end up changing a few things, which turns out to be for the better.”

I love my job, because…
“I want to be involved in the whole process, from A to Z. I feel really responsible for the work I do. The result? I’m sharp and alert because I’m always doing something else.”

My specialties:

“I’m communicative, curious and eager to learn. As the de facto resident copywriter I guess I’m pretty decent at that! I tend to create overly elaborate spreadsheets for everything. Furthermore, I’d like to argue I make the best lunches.”

My favourite project:

“The Athlon project is still dear to me, cause it was such a huge and multidisciplinary production, with such a cool presentation at a unique location. All that while at the time I only just started my job at VeeMee! Other favorite projects are the recurring projects from clients that are really fun to work with, for instance Carnaval Tilburg, Project Hardstyle and Musical Madness / AWAKE.”

What inspires me:

“In regards to my role at VeeMee, I like empowering others to do their job well as they see fit, and rather not get in the way myself. Learning about radical ways of running companies in terms of flat hierarchies and self-organisation (e.g. Semco) really inspired me in that sense. In terms of where music and visual art meet, I get inspired by a vast range of stuff, from Kandinsky to Chris Cunningham to the demoscene culture.”

Why I love my job:

“Working in a super fun team. Witnessing how I can enable others to do their own thing just a little bit better. The fact that my exact role isn’t set in stone makes every day unique.”

What I want to learn:

“I’m constantly getting better at organising large scale projects, trying to make sure goals and how and when to get there are clear and realistic, so that my colleagues can focus on what they love most, creating awesome stuff. Also, I’d like to get better at writing.”

My specialties:

“I believe my qualities are currently in developing concepts, artistic management and contact with clients. I also enjoy motivating the people I team up with on a creative and personal level.”

My favourite thing that I made with team VeeMee:

“The most fun I had in co-creating with team VeeMee was the show we made together for Oliver Heldens. The stage manager of Oliver Heldens asked me to modify an existing show, to which Michelle and I responded with a concept for an entirely brand new show. Oliver and his team & management were instantly excited. I still believe we knocked that one right out of the park. We’ve had many co-creations before and after that, but this particular project contains so much of our own designs and creativity. It was great fun.”

What inspires me:

“Anything can inspire me, really! Nature, a smart quote on a wall, run-down urban sites, a color combination, an unexpected question from one of my kids, it can really be anything!”

Why I love my job:

“Being able to create something massive where there was once nothing but an idea is what satisfies me every time.”

What I want to learn:

“I have not placed a dot on the horizon I am currently working towards. Rather, I follow my personal interests spontaneously and that has always benefited my profession. Currently, I am interested in being creative in a more tangible manner, like upholstering furniture, block-printing, painting on all kinds of objects. Aside from that, I like to follow online courses in specific subjects I like. The last one I did had to do with quantum physics.”
